Phil Childs, Movetech UK’s veteran salesman, retires.

Phil Childs has retired from Movetech UK (Part of the British Turntable Group) after a jubilant 18 years service for the Bolton based company.

Since joining Movetech UK, formerly British Turntable Company, in March 1997, Phil has held a variety of roles, including Quality Assurance Representative, Operations Manager, Sales Manager, Service and Repair Co-ordinator and most recently Internal Sales Co-ordinator.

Phil has also spent more than three decades sitting on the British Standards Technical Committee TDW4, an organisation where at present he sits as chairman, alongside representing ISO as the UK’s technical expert on engineering drawings. He is an industry veteran of more than 53 years, where he began his career as an apprentice draughtsman at BAE Systems (then British Aerospace) and then moving to Movetech UK, where he has embarked on a diversity of roles.

Phil had a few pleasant words to say regarding his time at Movetech UK, he said: “Quite a lot has changed since I joined in 1997, the company is now so much bigger, the range of products has grown and grown, and what I really like to see is the welcoming of young skilled apprentices which personally I think is very important for future success.”

I have enjoyed every minute of my time here, I must have picked up the phone hundreds of thousands of times since I started, it has been incredibly rewarding helping a multitude of diverse customers over the years, and most of all having the privilege of working with an exceptionally friendly bunch of colleagues along the way.”

He then went on to add: “It’s quite amusing that I am retiring from my position at Movetech UK, because it wouldn’t be the first time I have done so. I did actually retire a few years ago, but after a short period of time off, I was offered to re-join the company but on a flexible part time basis, which suited me right down to the ground. But this time, I can honestly say it will be for good, because when you’ve been working all your life and you look back over the years, you know when the right time is to stop, and for me, that time is now.”

I’m looking forward to spending a lot more time with my family, and as much as I would like to, you won’t find me sitting around with my slippers on watching day time TV. My daughter and son-in-law live on and run a working farm, and they have already drawn me up a long list of jobs they would like me to do. So over the coming months you will find me driving a tractor up and down acres of fields, collecting eggs and milking hundreds upon hundreds of cows, in fact, I am actually looking forward to it, as a change is as good as a rest. Additionally it will give me the chance to do more fun and impromptu things with my grandchildren.”

Tim Entwistle, Movetech UK’s Managing Director, said: “Phil joined the company nearly 18 years ago and in that time has seen both the business and the industry change dramatically. He is our longest serving salesman, and was always one to offer customers that personal touch, with his charming yet polite sense of humour, which our customers loved to hear.”

Phil has been a tremendous asset to the business and will be leaving some big shoes for us to fill, and on behalf of everyone at Movetech UK, from our staff and customers, to our partners and suppliers, I would like to thank him and wish him a happy, healthy and joyful retirement.”
