Movetech UK keep it in the family

Movetech UK (part of the British Turntable Group) continues to underline its commitment to advancing its skilled personnel and emphasising its successful family-run business ethic.

In 1990, Geoff Smith joined the company as a fabricator after completing his indentured apprenticeship and gaining work experience at three local engineering companies, at the very same time he was also about to welcome his son, Michael, in to the world.

Over the 29 year’s Geoff has worked for Movetech UK he has gained extensive experience in the manufacture of a wide range of industrial products such as bespoke heavy-duty turntables and air film lifting and moving equipment, in addition to retail display products including revolving stage turntables.

Geoff shows his professionalism and commitment towards every task he undertakes, and over the years he has proven this by implementing his superior skills and experience when manufacturing and installing products for various world leading commercial and industrial companies.

“Geoff has gained many qualifications since joining the company, and is now our Senior Turntable Engineer, overseeing and completing a wide range of high-profile jobs, along with educating the company’s current and future turntable technicians, including his son Michael – who joined the company in 2013 on an engineering apprenticeship scheme” said Tim Entwistle, Movetech UK’s Managing Director.

Tim continued: “Michael, who was born in 1991, not long after Geoff started at the company, has also worked hard to become a great asset to the business, with heaps of support and guidance from dad Geoff along the way.

“He has worked his way up from an apprenticeship scheme where he achieved a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Mechanical Manufacturing and Engineering – to being offered a full-time turntable technician role where he will start studying towards achieving a BEng in Mechanical Manufacturing and Engineering at University later this year.

“Michael, and all our turntable technicians and apprentices have learned many of their day-to-day ‘hands on’ responsibilities from Geoff – such as mechanical and electrical assemblies, welding and grinding, fabrication and installation of heavy-duty systems – so much so Michael went on to achieve Apprentice of the Year in 2016.

“Over nearly 60 years of manufacturing success is built on a strong foundation of six core values, ‘family values’ is one of the principles we stand by as a company, and we believe these values are essential to realising our vision and can only be achieved when every key value is rooted throughout every level of our business.

Tim then finished by saying: “Our devoted team have all contributed in identifying who we are and what is important to our business. Our values are consistent throughout, with each team member recognising the fundamental role they play to achieve our mission for excellence.”

Movetech UK has always been, and will continue to be, a family run business, and they pride themselves on this. Initially founded as Bolton Turntable, by the late John Entwistle, the company is now run by John’s son, Tim Entwistle (Managing Director) alongside his brother Russell Entwistle (Operations Director) and Technical Sales Director, Craig Wright – with their team of dedicated and talented professionals supporting them.

Over the 60 years Movetech UK has been operating, the skills of the personnel have evolved with the times but are still highly versatile, competent and adaptable people capable of dealing with whatever opportunities and challenges they are presented with as they were all those years ago.
